One of Fr. Martins last acts of charity was to send a gift of $5,000 to the Missionaries of Christ the King, an order of sisters who care for leper patients at Hopital Cardinal Leger in Leogane, Haiti. We just received this letter (translated from French) from Sr. Yolande LeBlanc in Haiti… Mr. McDaniel, On behalf of our leper patients and myself, I wish to offer you our sincere sympathies on the occasion of the death of Father Richard Martin. Twice he came here to visit us and I have found him so very sympathetic. We have greatly appreciated that good priest who was so generous to our dear lepers. For more than 16 years, he and his parishioners have supported unconditionally the leper patients in their project of crocheting. The monies made from the sales of these articles helped to pay for the education of their children and also in the construction of houses. We are excited at the news that we have received the wonderful gift of $5000USD to help our poorest patients and they are many. With a sincere heart, I say THANK YOU for your generosity. Only God will be able to reward you adequately at His Hour and at His Time. I hope I will have the joy to welcome you to Sigueneau as well as your collaborators.
