One of my favorite actors died today of an apparent suicide. Robin Williams was a talented, gentle soul who apparently suffered from depression. Anyone who has heard me lecture may recognize that I sometimes imitate his comedy style as a method of instruction. I morn his passing and feel for his family and friends. Please pray for all of them! Depression and other neuro-psychiatric diseases have an associated, undeserved stigma that prevents people from seeking help. I, Shawn Bean and Cynthia Smith successfully treat these conditions on a regular basis. Often, we work in conjunction with psychiatric professionals. If you know someone who suffers in silence, please intervene...let them know that their condition is mainly physiologic and is treatable. Most of all, let your suffering loved one know that ITS NOT THEIR FAULT! Please post any questions. This subject is near and dear to my heart and, having loved ones with these conditions, is the reason I do what I do. Please help stop the suffering...Thanks! Dr. Jess.
