One of my favorite singers was known for singing a song entitled Everyday is a day of Thanksgiving. The songs in part says Gods been so good to me, every day Hes blessing me. Everyday is a day of thanksgiving; take the time to glorify the Lord today. Why wait until the last Thursday in November to spend time being thankful? God does not wait until then to bless us. There are times when things happen and we see almost nothing to be thankful for and so we dont offer any praises of thanksgiving. One of the first steps in turning a negative into a positive is finding something for which you can be thankful. For example, when someone criticizes you, the natural reaction is to get a little angry, resentful and defensive. Consider what would happen if you could, instead, genuinely say thank you. When you can find a way to say thank you for criticism, you can find something positive to learn from it. Being truly thankful forces you to consider the positive possibilities, whatever the circumstance. Though the situation may be distressing, there is always a positive way to move forward from it. Yes, it is difficult to be thankful when youre in pain, yet gratitude can begin to truly ease and extinguish that pain. When things are at their worst, is when you need most the strength of your blessings. Be thankful, and draw strength from those blessings. Practice gratitude, even in the midst of despair, and it will open your eyes to the positive possibilities all around you. Be thankful today. A word from the Word: Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:1-5 (NIV) Tip of the day: Make a Thankful Box. Decorate a shoe box and label it. Put it on a table and urge your family to write on thing that they are thankful for once a day or once a week. Thanksgiving Day will be a good day to pull them out and read them as a family. Worth Remembering: Thank you, dear God, for this good life and forgive us if we do not love it enough. Thank you for the rain. And for the chance to wake up in three hours and go fishing: I thank you for that now, because I wont feel so thankful then. - Garrison Keillor
