One of my pet peeves is when a crew does their start of shift check of item by item according to the list provided by your employers. Start with the essentials so that if a call drops you can respond knowing you have the important stuff. I always tell new employees that if they check off their stretcher and drug box then they can run a call. By stretcher I mean what we have pre positioned on top: monitor, jump bag , portable o2 tank, and drug box. If the paramedic checks these pieces of equipment while the Basic is ensuring the truck is operational then this can all be completed it 5 min or less. The point is to get your truck in service and be available for calls as quickly as possible and then continue on the the list!!!
