One of our Ramblers asked if wed post a question for her, for the moment shed prefer to remain anonymous. My son just turned 3, but we have know since he was 13 months that he has a sensory processing disorder, & delayed in all of his milestones. He just became verbal about 6 months ago, but when he was tested he was not & they told me he was cognitively at an 8 month old level so they could not perform the autism screening. Since becoming verbal I really suspect Autism. My baby can count to 15 on his own, he can tell you all his colors, and knows some of his alphabet. He also recognizes the numbers 1 -10. He is very picky about where things go, if it is out of place he will scream then he will put it as he thinks it should be. He flaps his hands a lot. He loves Thomas the Train & can tell you all of the characters. When he plays with his trains or cars he lies down & rolls them back & forth right by his head. He only wants to be hugged or kissed on his terms. He does have good eye contact, but I have really worked with him on that when someone pointed out to me that he did not. My poor guy has undergone so many specialist trips to try to find out what is causing his delays, they have scared us with possible muscular dystrophy & the latest thing they wanted us to rule out was a stroke, which thank the Lord he did not have. I live in a city & state with very limited resources & support. It feels like I am getting the run around for the last year and a half. I know you cant diagnose Autism, but I know you live with someone who has Autism & am wondering if my son shows more of the traits of Autism or something else. My son is verbal now, but he has a diagnosis of dysarthria, his face muscles are too weak to form the correct sounds for words. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. It would be especially helpful if you are from Oklahoma and can offer any practical advice on this it would be of great help.
