One of our staff training projects was to create a fablab-style hannukah menora. So we designed a rube-goldberg device and presented it in the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday. It has 9 candles which pop up one by one. Javier, the instructor in charge of designing and building it, is a physics student and this was by far the biggest technical project he ever designed. He first did the first prototype with mostly manual tools, hot glue bamboo skewers and popsicle sticks, then went on to design in 2D/3D. I should say that we all learned alot from this project about how to design complex projects in stages, sub-dividing complex tasks into independent modules, and more.
