One of the BIGGEST challenges that we have with our son Gabe is that he finds pleasure in chewing his shirt collar. It got to the point where you could literally poke your finger through the holes that he chewed through many of his shirts. (And yes, we do feed the boy LOL... plenty!) At first, a simple tongue-lashing didnt work. So I took it a step further and told him that if he continued chewing his shirt, he would lose his daily candy that we give the boys, which he really looks forward to. So he ultimately had to choose whether chewing his shirt was worth losing his sweet-treat. Well, as you can imagine, we saw no more holes in his shirts as a result. Lol This of course reminded me of the fact that we as humans often choose temporary DESTRUCTIVE pleasures over the blessings that God has placed in or planned for our lives. Many of us are so entrapped and blinded by these things that were oblivious to the fact that they are leaving holes in our lives! Most times, if we actually took a moment to prayerfully think about it, we would come to the realization that the things God has given us are so much sweeter than that which we sell ourselves short for! In what area of your life are you chewing your shirt instead of eating the candy that God has provided for or promised you? Remember as scripture encourages: .... let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
