One of the best analyses I have seen recently. There is no serious discussion of reversing the cuts in the defense budget, even though the strategic requirements of defending U.S. allies in Europe, Asia and the Middle East have rarely been more manifest while Americas ability to do so has rarely been more in doubt. And if America isnt willing to resume a leading role in western civilization, the European allies are even more loath. I wrote a response a few days ago, that in my opinion the Third World War had just gotten closer. Nothing in this essay causes me to doubt that conclusion. Certainly not the decision to bomb, instead of invade and occupy, the territory currently held by Mideast extremists; and not the decision to appease Russia by refusing to defend the Ukraine while Putins surrogates slice off part of that country. The last time that was tried by a major power, it was Hitlers Germany, Tojos Japan, and Mussolinis Italy doing the pressing. And we all know how well that turned out.
