One of the best assignments ever in University: Into Azeroth & Virtual Embodiment Reflection Paper During the week of March 12, class will take place in Azeroth, the fictional online setting of the World of Warcraft MMORPG. Using World of Warcraft’s free-to-play starter edition, each student will create a character to “embody.” By the end of the following week (no later than 5:00pm March 21), you will submit a reflection paper (5 pages, excluding title page and bibliography) on your experiences. This reflection paper will include rich and thoughtful descriptions of the following: Character: Who is your character? What is his or her name and class? Why did you choose that particular name? Why did you choose that particular class? What impacted your decisions about your character’s gender and appearance? Do you think of your character as having a personality/story/history, and how do these relate to and/or differ from your own? Experiences: What did you do in Azeroth? Where did you go? What did you see? Who did you talk to? What was it like – what did it feel like, what did it look like, what did it sound like? Who did you meet? Did you spend time with other players, and if so, what did you do? Narratives: What kinds of narratives were you involved in? How were you involved? What kind of a role did these narratives create for your character within the larger world? How did these storytelling devices influence your character, and how did they influence your sense of gameplay, immersion, and experience? Critical and Visual Contextualization: Connect your reflections to course material. By referring to at least three course readings, offer a critical interpretation of the experiences you’ve just described. Supplement your rich descriptions and critical contextualizations with screenshots, in order to fully illustrate your descriptions, reflections, and interpretations. easy mode activated as a WoW veteran! haha
