One of the best known Xhosa idioms about the weather is Likhupha - TopicsExpress

One of the best known Xhosa idioms about the weather is Likhupha iintlanzi emanzini! This transates literally as It (Li - ie. the weather) takes out (khupha) the fish (iintlanzi) from the water (emanzini)’. What it really means is that the hot weather has heated up the river water to such an extent that the fish are jumping out! When I hear someone use this idiom, it reminds me of my culture and our days in the beautiful Eastern Cape. I always smile when I someone uses it. It warms my heart. (Zoliswa Khapha)
