One of the best known Xhosa idioms about the weather is Likhupha iintlanzi emanzini! This transates literally as It (Li - ie. the weather) takes out (khupha) the fish (iintlanzi) from the water (emanzini)’. What it really means is that the hot weather has heated up the river water to such an extent that the fish are jumping out!
