One of the greatest stories in Scripture is the saga of Esther. As Queen of the Medo-Persian empire she risks all to defend her own people, the Jews. Through Mordecai she issues this compelling call to prayer: ““Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan [the capital], and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!” (Esther 4:16 NKJV) Esther realizes that the only way to success is prayer. It is a powerful principle: Success in our lives depends on prayer. As Leonard Ravenhill, the great revival preacher, put it: “Much prayer, much power. Little prayer, little power.”
