One of the issues that keeps popping up is I have a sticker therefore I am entitled to park in DPB. This is not true. You are only entitled to park in a DPB if the person for whom the sticker is issued is in the car. My wife is disabled and I never use the sticker unless she is the passenger. Furthermore, it was recently renewed and here is the criteria Unable to walk 50 metres without assistance or the use of an aid such as wheelchair, walker or 4 pronged walking stick NOTE> Unable, not its a bit inconvenient. and Needs extra space to enable alighting from the vehicle due to the disability viz room to position a wheelchair, fully open the door. Unfortunately doctors are signing these things off, under those conditions for all and sundry. A mate who has heart problems (nearly 80 so go figure) but otherwise fully ambulatory got one. Thought the doctor would have encouraged walking rather than the reverse and how could he possibly sign off on the conditions in the application. Another incident - a young bloke - 25 or so - ran to his car parked next to us. I said why are you in a disabled spot. He said he had suffered a brain injury and could suffer another and collapse so his doctor has issued him with a DPP. So ok for him to drive around awaiting his blackout but he could not walk too far at the shops. How can you beat that logic. The whole system needs a complete overhaul (promised by Bill Shorten when he was Minister but he did nothing except issue the press release promising the immediate action of a complete review. Nothing from any government since and meanwhile the genuinely disabled suffer from crooked and stupid doctors, selfish DPB thieves, lazy politicians. We need a campaign for a complete overhaul, set the new rules and start again. Genuine users have no fear of this - the rest do.
