One of the main ways the Byzantine Empire managed to survive that long was by diverting potential dangers from the Mainland to the Periphery. That also included using one tribe against another. Something similar happened both times Central Europeans were diverted to Russia the last 2 centuries. Ukraine and Russia need to think where their interest lies and not let being outbyzantined and destroy the neibourghood by foxy Trans -Atlantic interests.
