One of the most profound differences between worship in Islam and worship in Christianity centers on the role of music and singing. Most conservative Muslims declare almost all music to be haram (forbidden) and there is no role for music or singing in Islamic worship in the mosque (see the video below), while the Bible urges exuberant musical worship as in Psalm 150. Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. But Islam is a worship without song. Even outside the context of worship, Western society is a singing society. That music can be, and often is, used in profane and God-denying ways but those impure uses of music are not the fault of Music per se but of the low morals Western society has embraced. Can you imagine our societys loss had there never been a Bach or Beethoven? How much poorer humanity would be without Mozarts Ave Verum Corpus, or Carl Orffs O Fortuna Yet, though many Muslim scholars insist that music is harm, the Muslim world has pushed past the puritanical and soul-deadening demands of the religious leaders of Islam to use music in secular contexts. It illustrates that the laws of Islam that conflict with basic human nature eventually get re-interpreted or they are tossed aside. For those of you followers of Christ, can you imagine your life and your worship without a song? I cannot. 8 And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets. (1 Chronicles 13) For Muslims here, how do you feel about music and especially music in worship? https://youtube/watch?v=Tk1ESOU7Dsk
