One of the perils of having one mega bookseller is crap like this. They last pulled these tactics in 2010 with Macmillan over a contract dispute. Does Amazon have the right to do this? Of course they do. Its business. Meanwhile authors who have spent years gearing up for their book launches are being f*cked over. J.K. Rowling and the bigger names will survive. The less well know authors? Not so sure. Careers are being damaged and ruined. Thats not hyperbole. Because everything in NY is aimed toward that launch day there is no catching up. Sales arent being made and the authors, who have NO control over this pissing match, are being hurt. And if you think the publisher will remember this mess when it comes to the next round of contracts, that is unlikely. I boycotted Amazon for three years after the Macmillan deal. Looks like Ill be changing vendors... again. No way I can back my indie published books out of their system and not lose $$. So its a lose-lose not matter how you look at it. Argh...
