One of the things I could not comprehend (and there are so many of them) with school programs nowadays is the proliferation of the latest dance craze (read: Intermission) we see in TV performed by pupils/students. Gone were the days of the graceful dances performed by the likes of Lynie Demata, Pamela Labios, Juliet Dioquino and Teresita Mateum and their partners mentored by laboriously mentored by Mrs. Hilaria Labios. Instead we see pupils/students wriggling like earthworms under the direct intense heat of the sun. Gone were also the days when students/pupils when queried about what our national dance is can answer you back without battling an eyelash. Even our generation probably will answer Tinikling which is wrong answer now because it is now Carinosa. Our national food - the now generation perhaps will answer Mang Inasal. Why bother, you may shot back at me when knowing them wont bring food to the table. True, no arguments. What then is the significance? Even wonder why we Filipinos tend to repeat the same mistakes over and over again? Dont you think it is because we never have established our national identify as Filipinos?
