One of the things that has always baffled me about NYC is the fact that Mets fans hate the Yankees and vice versa. Before I moved here I always assumed that if the Mets were to make the World Series all of the Yankees fans would transfer their support and vice versa. But for many people that isnt the case. Youre either one or the other. The rivalry runs pretty deep, and its a hatred for some. Then when I first moved here I thought that NJ people loved the Mets and true New Yorkers loved the Yankees. But thats not the case either. Theres no real science behind it. Its all emotion. Deep emotion, derived from whatever team impacted you most as a kid. I guess when youre from a big city like NYC you take for granted the fact that you have two teams that are from your area, and that they both represent your city. If Minnesota or Colorado had two teams in the same sport, you can bet that, in the end, theyd throw their support behind whichever team goes the farthest. The city is different. Thats one of the things I love about NYC. Its different.
