One of the three trunks of this big leaf maple failed, falling - TopicsExpress

One of the three trunks of this big leaf maple failed, falling across two yards and through two fences. On day one, I brushed out the easy canopy that was over the open yard, and set a block. I used the GRCS to swing some of the back leads off that trunk, then we left and drove to Ballard to chip brush for Westside Tree Care. The next day, Patrick Clemo (Westside) climbed and we swung and lowered the rest of the brush, some of which is shown in this video. The chipper was in the front, and other side of the house. We set a redirect block on a small fir, and ran out the chipper winch line. It wasnt long enough, so we added a length of line. We used it, successfully, to really aid in getting the brush to the landing zone. This is the third time in the last few months that weve set the winch line to the butt of leads being tip tied (or butt hitched and tipped over). In each case, the technique has been a huge labor saver, and has been more effective that speed lining would have been.
