One other thing Ive had on my mind about addiction; I do not agree with the AMA classifying addiction as a disease. Granted I am not a doctor, although I did play one on the radio. But as someone who has suffered thru addiction and still has a fair ability to reason and analyze I would classify it as a form of mental illness. I never lost physical health. During my addiction I lost the ability to think clearly, to reason, to make decisions, as well as lacking many other elements one would associate with good mental health. In time these abilities returned as the proverbial fog lifted. Gratefully this shows that it truly can be a temporary insanity. That part is up to the individual. It shocks me that the AMA hasnt done anything to reclassify addiction in a more fitting manner. Maybe someday.
