One that is often referred to as broken up on site after this bomb damage, but was actually repaired-it took two and a half years at Newton Abbot works!!! 2785 worked until October 1947, but was not officially withdrawn until the following spring. On NA shed, there was a bit of a trademark, in the form of polished safety valve covers. Sometimes if a better example turned up on a foreign engine, it was swapped. This one fell off while the loco was in store, becoming a domestic hallstand for tidying brollies etc. More recently it turned up in a saleroom and has now become a table!
