One thing I have always from a boy wondered about the Moon, is why does it not turn in the vortex of the Earth, why is the Dark Side always the dark Side? what holds the moon in a static position around the Earth? Surely if you have a spinning object the Earth that is spinning due to the effect of the Sun, then surely the Moon should be rotating in the opposite direction to the Earths pull? eg! Two cogs inter mingled will turn in opposite directions via the meshing of the teeth, The Earth is the Cob but the moon is like a non tooth cog that isnt meshing - So what hold the Moon in the same position?
