One thing I really miss is the feel of well polished pine in my hands. My right hand grazing a steel surface, fingers tracing the surface for a knob to throw upward. Retract a carefully balanced bolt of beauty. Throw the bolt smoothly and carefully toward the front, hearing a round of 7.62x54R guide itself gracefully into its sweet homely chamber. Then my palm fix to the bolt handle, throwing it to the ground. My right hand then searches for its home in a hole of metal and spur. Scan my target. Fixate on my landing rear sight to front post. Align. Breathe in, out, in, out. Hold. Gently bring in the spur as if you were hugging someone you love. Bang. Ferocity in force of recoil and muzzle flash. A feeling of ecstasy. Target with a dime sized hole in the black. Success. Poetry at its finest. I will be back for you. Daddy misses you too much to not fire you again.
