One thing Ive discovered about the Swiss...they like to build up. And Mürren is evidence of that. Its another tiny town, sprinkled with chalets and waterfalls, that sits perched 1000ft atop one of the sheer cliffs that drops into the Lauterbrunnen valley. The surrounding foliage is lush and dense until you reach the winter snow line, and then the terrain turns to grasses and exposed boulders. The Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger peaks, jagged and glacier-ridden, dominate the eastern panorama. We took a hike that wound us around the tiny villages that dotted the base of the peaks, villages even higher up than Mürren. Its a ski destination, but the tram to the Schilthorn, the peak made famous by James Bond, is still well worth the trip. And by some stroke of good luck, the fog cleared for some of the most breathtaking views any of us have ever experienced.
