One thing Ive noticed over the past 2 years working as a therapist, is the way therapists teach movement patterns. I dont understand the reasoning behind teaching a multi-segment movement pattern (ie. squat) and focusing on one segment of the body (ie. knees)? Am I missing something? I get that you dont make someone do full depth squats when they are doing rehab for a knee or back pathology, but to teach someone with healthy knees/back do 90 degree squats and not allowing the knees to naturally track over the toes boggles my mind. All the emphasis seem to be placed on reducing knee tension, but no one ever seems to worry about the low back. Shouldnt you teach proper weight distribution instead through proper low back, hips, knees and ankle stacking? Therapists and Strength coaches, please enlighten me.
