One week ago, we embarked on RFK 2014...one week ago, the lives of 77 full time volunteers and 20 at home staff, prepared to provide a week long camp experience that 43 children would never forget! One week ago, the lives of 97 RFK volunteers and 43 children would again, be forever changed! Pastor Justin poured the Word of God into these kids and staff in a way that could only be from God! They eagerly worshiped with our worship leader, Bobby and sang from the depths of their souls for the Lord your God will be with you....wherever you go....; Drama and the sheepfold taught these kids that they are His sheep and that God loves them....Breakfast club fun brought laughter and joy; Activities such as making stick horses for our RFK Derby; wooden treasure boxes & catapults; horseshoe picture frames; rope names, tye-dye shirts, duct tape goodies, and so much more; the Tea Party with the King/Queen all dolled and dressed up as they were escorted by our Teen Men to the King & Queen; our boys had a Deputizing Party and we dubbed Royal Family Deputies -then taught how to rope by CJ Fowlie; our Birthday Party day with the meadow filled with carnival games, the royal derby, gold panning, our photo booth and rides on 3 beautiful horses; the family picnic day to sit in the meadow with our family teams of Grandma and Grandpa; Aunt & Uncle, Brother and Sister and fly kites, play football, frisbee; our campfire and sharing from a former RFK foster youth who blessed the hearts of these children as they understood they were not alone nor were they the only one -but were surrounded by other children who are, were, or had been part of foster care or social services; a night full of tears ending with love and comfort in knowing and understanding that these volunteers were here to love them and provide a week of memories they would never forget....then Friday - time to go home day..the cafeteria full of children singing, the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go......Joy, Joy, Joy...Yes, that was our week of RFK 2014! Then today, Sunday, our last time together as the Oakland As extended tickets to RFK Brentwood and 50 of us (campers, counselors, and families) met together - one last time and had a blast! Today was hard as the goodbye today brought tears from our campers who verbally were afraid they would not see RFK staff again.....we assured them that God has opened a new door for RFK and club and this is not the end! Thank You Jesus for touching the lives of many in this ministry! Moments did matter...lives were changed.....blessings abound. I believe we were far more blessed than the kids were as we stepped in obedience to love on His children! Now RFK 2015...here we come...there are only 357 more days until camp! For those of you who served alongside of us in this ministry, from the bottoms of our hearts and depths of our souls, thank you!
