One week from today, Monday, Oct. 6 will be the second anniversary of our son Justins death. As you may or may not know, Justin served with Third Group Special Forces and was stationed in Wardak, Province, Afghanistan on his deployment where he was killed in action while on foot patrol. It still does not seem real that it has been two years that we lost him but sometimes it feels like forever! We are not planning anything formal but rather, we, his dad, Mark, his brother, Drew and I will be at Bethesda Cemetery where he is buried and the site of the Old Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen, NC from 5-7:30 to place a flower on his grave and to share a fried chicken picnic meal. The last meal we had with him before he left on Sept. 5, 2012 was at KFC at Ft. Bragg. We invite you to join us. You may want to bring your walking or running shoes and walk or run in his memory. Physical fitness was a very important thing to him and he made us healthier by challenging us to eat better and exercise more and he has inspired many others to do the same. Justin ran here many times when he was in training and played here as well when he was a teenager as this is in our neighborhood where he grew up from age 12. Many people come to this place to play soccer, golf, rugby or just to visit the cemetery. It is a very beautiful and peaceful yet fun/active place! There are tables and benches so lots of space to use. Bring food if you like to share or just be with us as we remember Justin and share stories about him. Our world is a lot dimmer than before but we each continue to reinvent our lives for this new reality. However, we have done extremely well due to the amazing community support and love we have felt over the years. Thank you for that and we hope to see some of you next Monday. Wishing you well.
