One week to go until Myrtle George does a lunchtime busking session at the Harland Cafe (John St, Sheffield). Myrtle is a rare jewel. Born in 1934, from a young age she played piano in the social club for her Anglo-Indian community, after she married she came to England and lived a normal life until she retired and started singing in public again. Often seen with the excellent Djangonauts whose music is as good as their very precise name. She is master of those wonderful popular jazz songs of the 30s and 40s and a direct link to a musical culture that we only know through the movies and recordings.
