Only a week to go until my Aberglasney exhibition so heres three more small paintings that i will be showing. All three are boat themed. The decaying boat is i am told, or was as it isnt there anymore, an old retired lifeboat. Like some great hulking Whale carcass washed up on the mudflats, it used to lie high up on the salt marsh at Landshipping on the Cleddau estuary. Ive painted it many times & although it is no longer there, i did manage to photograph it from all angles & in all conditions, so i will be able to paint lots more of this fab subject. Just like my love of painting old decaying, derelict buildings, this boat has many of those qualities with the added attraction of being on the edge of an estuary. It doesnt really get any better than that for me. I have barely touched the surface of the reference material that ive collected of this boat & its surroundings. Plans for future paintings of this boat have swum around in my head for years & sometimes you have an idea but you do not possess the skill needed to do your ideas justice, you just have to bide your time until your knowledge catches up with your ideas. Fortunately i am a patient person in this respect & dont mind waiting until i know i can do it. Sorry for the quality of writing today, ive got lots to do & i have rushed this post a bit. Isnt it strange how on one day my painting/writing will flow effortlessly & the next its as if a different person is in control of the brush or pen ( keyboard ). Well, id better get on.
