Open Letter to Corporate America: NOT EVERY CONCEPT IN THE HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW NEEDS TO BE INSERTED INTO CORPORATE CULTURE. I have never been one to quickly latch on to every bone that the #HarvardBusinessReview has thrown out. The elusive #WorkLifeBalance concept is one that Ive always thought gets too much attention. When I speak at conferences, I am always asked, how do you balance it all? My answer...I dont feel the need to. Its a man made concept that makes women feel guilty for being on the grind. Its always women who end up being asked about work life balance...and never men. I dont need work-life balance. I need work-life congruence. This article sums up my opinion for MY life in a few paragraphs. If anyone else needs work life balance, good luck on your search. I dont believe in overworking ppl, so corporations should never have unreal expectations, but dont knock ppl down for their personal productivity goals. Not everyone who works long hours is a workaholic. Some ppl actually love their jobs and others need the money to support their families. I work hard, but I also relax too. I dont think we should use balance as our metric for being a healthy person, productive employee, engaged mom or attentive wife. IMO, WL balance is just another way to make women feel guilty about their career pursuits. (punches glass ceiling and flies through with cape blowing in the wind) LOL!
