Open Letter to Wits University Vice Chancellor Adam Habib from 2015 SRC member MightiJamie. Its about Wits Universitys nascent potential as the bedrock of 21st century African thought, and the threat a profit-prioritising imperative from VC Habib brings to the institution. Not to mention, the potential exclusion of some of South Africas greatest minds in the process. I love Wits University, its the best place to be in the World. I think its the centre of the African Renaissance. I believe some of the young women and men rubbing shoulders at Wits today will save Africa from its dark side. Will guide Africa to realise its fullest latent potential. I love this place and I am grateful for each day I am a student. I do not love what this place is becoming.....Wits can never be a hideaway for the rich white child and the child of tenderprenuers. Wits University can never be Sandton Mall. But is Wits - or could the institution - be the centre of the African Renaissance?
