Open Letter to the Geneva 2 Conference Organization Committe To UN, USA, EU, Russia, China, South Africa and all conference participants and heads of state; I strongly believe that the Geneva 2 Conference, which you are about to complete the preparations of, will serve to the democratization and peace in Syria. However, there are news that the Committee is reluctant and obstructive about the participation of the Kurds to the Conference. I truly wish that this is not true. The Kurds must attend to the Geneva 2 Conference in their own capacity because: 1) The root cause of the war in Syria is the regimes monolithic, authoritarian and anti-democratic structure. Thus, the solution should be democratic, pluralistic and participatory. 2) To prevent the participation of Kurds who are willing to take part in the conference would be anti pluralistic and democratic involvement. And, it would not serve good for solution. 3) The authoritarian and uncontrolled war of the opposition and the authoritarian structure of the regime are far from securing democratization of the country. 4) The Kurds are organized in Syria and they have established a stable and democratic region. The expansion of the stability and democracy that exists in the region to whole of Syria is possible through the participation of Kurds 5) The rexistance of radical Islamist groups, such as Al Qaida, which benefit from the civil conflict and instability in the country are serious threats for the whole region. The occupation of Nacaf and Ramadi by these groups signal the possibility that it might trigger civil wars in other countries and that the war might spread to the whole region. 6) The Kurds in Iraq, Iran and Turkey are the assurance of the democracy and stability of the region and have always been in harmony with the international community. Therefore, the participation of Rojava Kurds to the conference is vital for the regional stability, peace and democracy. 7) Kurds, being secular and democratic, must have a say in the democracy and stability efforts for Syria during the Conference. 8) To exclude Kurds, who champion women participation, respect for all beliefs and identities, from the conference would would the conscience of humanity. 9) I would like to point out that neither the current opposition forces nor the regime is capable of representing the Kurds – both structures are monistic and authoritarian. 10) Kurds did not take either of the sides since the beginning of the civil war. Thet believed that the civil conflict would not serve the democratization of the country. They advocated democratic struggle and negotiation as the only way for solution. They repeatedly called the international community to contribute with the same approach. Thus, it would not be wrong to say that Kurds have been voicing and struggling for the solution that the Geneva 2 Conference aims to reach. 11) Kurds are working to achieve a democratic autonomy through a rights based, equal and just struggle. They strive for a multicultural, multi-faith and multi-etnic future together with all the people of Syria. 12) Syria Kurds are surrounded by the regime forces and Al Qaida gangs. The exclusion of Kurds from the Conference will make them vulnerable to further attacks, which means a horrible war. And a Rojava that is in war, isolated and under embargo would mean a humanitarian tragedy. And its sin would be on the Conference. 12) The Arab, Kurd and Assyrian communities living in Rojava have already agreed on a democratic constitution. Kurds are willing to share the democratic maturity and stability environment with all the peoples of Syria. Participation of Desteya Bilind as the representative of the Kurdish people would contribute to your work to achieve a democratic and free Syria. I salute the potential contribution of the conference to the peace, freedom and democracy of the region with the participation of the Syrian Government, Opposition, Kurdish High Council, freinds of Syria and international community! With best regards and success Peace activist and human rights defender Halil SAVDA
