Open Short [for me] Letter to young people getting married (not that anyone wants to read it) HOLD UP. No matter how many times youve considered it, do it again. Right now most of you have little to know idea who you really are & what you really want out of life - & the same goes for the other in the relationship. I dont say that condescendingly, its just FACT, the vast majority of the time. Life experience opens a lot of doors, many of which you never knew you wanted to walk through. And Love is blind, which will never change & is a great thing, but if its not right for one or both of you youre going to end up with an 80 year mistake, or an extremely painful situation coming for both parties. And if youre 1000% set against divorce for religious or personal reasons....then yeah, you just rushed into something because you thought you HAD to be together NOW that could confine & hurt you or the other person for THE REST OF YOUR LIVES. Sure, that marriage was perfect for some, & that makes us all incredibly happy for you. But that doesnt mean we should ignore the many more situations where it was the worst mistake that could have been made. Pretending like love is some mystical magical thing on which no outside voice can raise an alternative suggestion is not only ignorant & short-sighted, it just perpetuates the cycle of heartbreak. And you know what? If you wait a year or two & it IS perfect? Youll both be 90 & celebrating your 67th Anniversary instead of your 72nd. Easy to weigh a few extra years of being together before marriage to cement it against EIGHTY of regret. Signed, NOT a Mini-Rant...Serious Concern. Because its happening every time we turn around, & AT LEAST every other time were turning around its set up for disaster. And Lord knows we all have enough of that without compounding it. Also Signed, -House
