Opening in the gallery tomorrow: PAC ART | MARTIN HEUSTON 10 - 15 SEPTEMBER 2013 OPENING: 6.30 - 9.00pm Tuesday 10 September OPEN: 11.00am - 7.00pm Tuesday - Sunday NZ PREMIERE Pac Art – a cross-cultural fusion of pacific and pop art For Martin, who was born in Papua New Guinea and moved to the western world at the age of 6, masks became comics, traditional dances the moonwalk, carvings the 8-bit video games, grass skirts became flared jeans. All intricate and intertwined to form a unique interpretation and window into cross-culturalism in the era of greasy fish & chip shops, video games, funky music, cartoons, and an innocence in the late nuclear age. Finding his own identity, art has always been part of Martin’s life. It was his way to deal with the challenges of growing up with two cultures. It is an insight to the pacific diaspora of 1970’s Australasia through soul, humour and passion. His works are influenced by the organic tribal patterns of Papua New Guinea, the pacific tikis, totems and Aztec/Mayan mandalas, as well as popular cultural elements such as comics, and music icons including Hendrix, Marley and Lennon. Blend in Picasso, Warhol, Robert Crumb and subversive graffiti artists such as Jean Michel Basquiat and oh yeah, his pieces come alive! Be part of this exciting experience; let your mind get lost while exploring all the facets, quirks and turns within each piece. https://facebook/martin.heuston martinheuston.carbonmade heuston.art@gmail A huge THANKS to Little India for supporting our opening function with some nibbles! facebook/littleindiaonline littleindia.co.nz/
