Oscar came around the corner, frantically barking in woos of protection. His nails smacked the hardwood floor as he barrelled toward the door. “Its me, Liz. Open the door.” Jessicas head cranked back to the blanked, eyes widened. For the first time, she noticed the lump outlined beneath the blanket. Such a big covering for such a not so little mound. Pulling her hands from her house-coat pocket, the sticky liquid squeezed through her fingers. Red. Blood red. Jessicas knees buckled. Darkness. Nothing.
