Operation Boxtop supplies remote Canadian station Read the complete story at bit.ly/1sU3Zw5 The Canadian Armed Forces regularly resupplies Canadian Forces Station Alert on the northernmost tip of Ellesmere Island, Nunavut. Here’s a look at that biannual mission from the point of view of one of our Allies. Located just 508 miles [817 kilometres] from the North Pole and 1,140 miles [1,834 kilometres] north of the Arctic Circle, Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert and its small contingent of personnel provides signals intelligence there and for its detachment stations. Due to its remote geographic location at the northernmost inhabited location on earth, CFS Alert requires a biannual resupply mission to sustain the inhabitants so the mission can be completed and they can make it through the harsh Arctic winter.
