Opeyemi Bamidele An Ekiti State federal lawmaker, Opeyemi - TopicsExpress

Opeyemi Bamidele An Ekiti State federal lawmaker, Opeyemi Bamidele, has said his move to the Labour Party should not be seen as a defection from the All Progressives Congress. The lawmaker was speaking in relation to his official notification to the House of Representatives on his change of party, a private television station,Channels Tevision, reports. He said he had not been a member of the APC, having decided not to be a part of the subsequent merger that was negotiated between the leadership of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and some other political parties. Bamidele had been involved in series of disagreements with the leadership of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria over their request that he should drop his governorship ambition in the 2014 election for the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi. Members of the Ekiti caucus in the House of Representatives had in 2013 also removed Opeyemi Bamidele as chairman of the caucus for what they described as the flouting of party directives and nursing governorship ambitions for the 2014 elections. However, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, denied the reports then, stating that Bamidele’s 2014 governorship ambition was not responsible for his travails. Developments since the merger of the ACN with other political parties to form the new opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, indicate that the party has given its full support to Governor Kayode Fayemi to run for a second term in office. Mr. Bamidele had reportedly insisted that he was not ready to step down for Fayemi and vowed to forge ahead with his ambition. Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved.
