Opposition Alliance resolve to field one common candidate The Opposition Alliance comprising Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD), Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ), Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) and People’s Party (PP) has decided to field one common candidate in future by-elections. The Alliance made the decision at a meeting held today, February 27, 2014 in Lusaka. “The decision was made at a meeting today in Lusaka attended by party leaders namely Dr. Nevers Mumba MMD, Mr. Mike Mulongoti PP, Dr Fred Mtesa ZED and Fr Frank Bwalya ABZ,” disclosed Fr. Bwalya who is the Alliance’s Spokesperson, Thursday evening. The meeting was chaired by General Malimba Masheke. MMD and ABZ fielded candidates in the last held Katuba by-election that was won by UPND’s Jonas Shakafuswa. Shakafuswa polled 4, 781 with his closest rival Moses Chilando of the Patriotic Front (PF) polling 2, 747. Third was the Cecil Holmes of the MMD who got 734 while Joseph Mushalika of NAREP came fourth 566 votes. Fifth was Fr. Frank Bwalya’s Alliance for a Better Zambia (ABZ) candidate Patricia Mwashingwele with 393 votes. She was followed by Allan Malawo of UNIP who managed 124 votes. Cozmo Mumba’s National Revolution Party’s Shakespeare Mwakamui trailed and only managed 23 vote
