Oracle (44/8 in 8 overs ) Vs Toonz Animations (38/6 in 8 overs) Still Goosebumps and electric tremors all over the body ! 2 years back Oracle stormed into the Technopark Cricket Tournament by hitting a last ball sixer in a nail biting encounter against QBurst – thanks to Sathyas heroics ! But this time, it was a collective team effort which culminated in an emphatic victory for Oracle against Toonz Animations . In an arena where the Infosians, Revenue Meds and USTs dominate, Oracle has stamped its feet and has already turned into an unsullied opposition to any team within this short period. The match itself was uncertain to happen owing to the heavy rains last day and the dark clouds over the horizon had casted its shadow of doubts in everybody’s’ mind. Confusions had crawled up in my own mind on what to do if toss favors us. There was no clue about the pitch behavior and with the grassy ground turning into a pool, the toss seemed to be a poisoned chalice. But to sway away all the confusions, Sun came out shining so brightly and all those topsy-turvy seemed to be a distant thought. Kudos to the organizers of Somnoware Cup 2014 who made the Ground Match fit within a short span of time. Rest has been an oft repeated story – winning the toss, electing to bat first and the joust began ! Within a jiffy, the demons started to crawl up asking questions on my decision – with Oracle losing the first wicket on the very first ball ! Premonitions of an impending danger was allayed when Arjun joined Sarath . Arjun’s resplendent innings came to an end when the effort to hoist a delivery over midwicket boundary landed safe in the hands of that fielder. Out walked Bibinlal but even before the scorecard made any significant progress we lost our precious wicket of Sarath in an almost similar fashion to that of Arjun’s dismissal. I joined Bibin, overseeing a low scoring contest our plan was to keep the scoreboard tickling till we find our foot in. Though we succeeded in it, I was caught out at deep square leg in an urge to up the runrate. Bibin too soon followed the suit getting out at mid wicket again ! Sandeep, Chaitanya, Kannan and Sreekanth too played their part but still after the end of 8 overs what we could manage was hitherto the lowest total of Oracle - 44 for the loss of 8 wickets ( that too with just a single boundary) ! But with the likes of Apoorva, Pradeep , Sandeep etc in the bowling lineup we had the confidence of defending the total and the intrepid delirious crowd too was in our favor. Realizing the low total to defend, we started off with 3 close in fielders and the ever reliable Apoorva produced a gem of a first over when he removed the Opposition captain with a superb return catch ! The pandemonium unsettled the Opposition and their plan was quite evident – play out the new ball without losing any more wickets ! The plan backfired when Pradeep and Chaithanya tightened things up and the already disarrayed Opposition camp was in complete mayhem – 8/1 (3.0 overs ) The asking rate went over 6 an over and that was more than they could have asked for, when Pradeep, Kannan and Sandy bowled excellent overs. In between, a couple of loose deliveries were sent sailing over the ropes and that shifted the gears back and situation turned fidgety for us, yet 13 required from the last over. Kannan gave them the bum’s rush when he fluttered out 2 wickets in that over, returning with the best figures of 2-0-10-4 !! The victory was unveiled in a most histrionic manner – with first the lowest ever total of Oracle (with a lone boundary), the first ever instance in which Bibin was not required to bowl and Sandy with just 1 over and first win for Oracle without Reji – Credit goes to collective effort of the team :) Once again, thanks to all those viewers who have whole heartedly supported us to march to Victory ! Expecting the same, when we are gonna face the mighty infosiyans the next Saturday in another knockout Punch :)
