Oregon Emergency Management and the Department of Public Safety - TopicsExpress

Oregon Emergency Management and the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training will host an EMI sponsored Regional offering of a L-952: ICS Position Specific All Hazards Public Information Officer course on December 2-6, 2013, at DPSST in Salem. Class will be 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day and is limited to 30 participants. Overview: This course is designed for a PIO assigned to an incident as a member of an All-Hazard Incident Management Team, Local IMTs, as well as for the PIO assigned to an incident as an assistant PIO in a variety of capacities. This course will help students develop a strong set of core PIO skills and the ability to apply them within the context of an AHIMT. This course is also distinct from other information function courses in that it combines elements from both the basic and advanced function to concentrate training on the fundamental duties and responsibilities of PIO in an all-hazard environment. The course material does not assume or require experience as a PIO, but also is not a basic PIO course. Exercises, simulations, discussions, and a final exam enable students to process and apply their new knowledge. Selection Criteria: NIMS ICS Position Specific training should be completed by personnel who are regularly assigned to functional, support, or unit leader positions on USFA or other Type III AHIMT, or by those persons who desire to seek credentials/certification in those positions. Attendance preference will be given to FEMA Region X States: Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. All other applicants will go on a waiting list. Prerequisites: ICS 100-400, IS-700: Intro to NIMS, and IS-800: Intro to NRF. Copies of course completion certificates must accompany your application. The Independent Study courses can be taken at: training.fema.gov/IS/ There is no registration fee and meals will be provided by DPSST. Funding Assistance: This is an Emergency Management Institute sponsored course. Funding is available to assist students with their travel costs. Standard NFA/EMI reimbursement policies will apply. Lodging: Dorm room lodging is available at DPSST for those traveling more than 75 miles one-way. No offsite lodging will be reimbursed by EMI. If you would like to request dorm room housing (AFTER you receive an e-mail confirming you have been registered for the class), please contact Rebecca Nolte at [email protected] or 503-378-4399 no later than October 11, 2013. Applications: Interested parties should submit a FEMA Form 119-25-1: General Admission Application, routed through the appropriate County and State Emergency Management Office. Confirmation notifications with logistical information will be sent to applicants selected to attend.
