Organic v Inorganic Even a schoolchild knows that a head of lettuce contains large quantities of iron. An ordinary carpenter’s nail also contains large quantities of iron. Chemical analysis in each case proves it. But, the iron in a nail is dead, devitalised and inorganic. The iron in a head of lettuce is a living, vital organic substance. We can live on lettuce but we cannot live on a carpenters nail.
