Our Cameco Cowboy Tough med team did a pre- and post-race weight analysis of racers to help gauge any health issues that may have arisen on course. Heres JRs summary: For the racers who lost weight, the average weight loss was 2.65 kg or 3.4% of body weight. The most weight loss was 7.8 kg. The most weight loss by percentage was 9.4%. Five racers gained weight. Interestingly, 4 of the 5 were female. For the racers who gained weight, the average weight gain was 2.0 kg or 2.84% of body weight. The most weight gain was 5.1 kg. The most weight gain by percentage was 6.5%. The racer who gained the most weight (both absolute and by percentage) was both subjectively, as well as objectively, edematous. It would have been nice to know serum sodium level. Interesting... Its gotta be hard to maintain weight when your burning that many calories!
