Our Daily Gospel 09/05/2014 Our Daily Prayer Dear GOD, forgive us for the sins we have done and will do. Let us go forth, as called by You, redeemed by Your Son precious blood. Sometime we have disobeyed Your voice but now contrite of heart we turn to You for guidance. Lead us, O Lord, to step out in faith and obey Your Words as we speak of Your good deeds to all. For all You have given, we praise Your name and give You the glory. Give us the strength to fight the urge to do things our own way. Lord, help us not to respond in kind to those who hate and turn from You; instead, help us to love and pray. If we are going in the wrong direction, or if we have no goal in view, let Your Son transform us and have control. Lord, we need our spirit refreshed and renewed today. Father, thank You for giving us Your Word to guide our lives. May we give it the serious care and handling it so richly deserves, and may we live it out daily through our action and attitudes. Speak to us through Your Word that we might hear Your heart, and help us to show our heart with You in prayer. God, please bless, watch over, and keep us, the children, our family, and friends in Your caring and loving hands. In You the Father, Your Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit Name AMEN. Our Daily Bread Law Alone Will Not Protect Us Romans 13:2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.Thoughts for Today:.....There are some who might think this verse forbids a Christian to disobey anyone who has authority over us. I dont agree. In Acts 5:17-28, the high priest gave Peter and the Apostles specific orders to not preach Jesus to the people. When they disobeyed he brought them before the Sanhedrin (the full body of Israels elders) to answer for their actions. Acts 5:29: Peter and the other apostles replied: We must obey God rather than men! So there is a time not to submit to those in authority -- when we are told to do something that is directly contrary to the written Word of God. We just need to make sure it is in the proper context. ...... Scripture tells us Christianity is not a movement to enforce obedience to government; and its not a call to action in order to change laws or clean up the streets of our cities. Rather, it speaks of Gods power. His never-ending love and plan for the salvation of mankind. When we respond to His offer of forgiveness, our lives are changed. Our character is then molded into the very image of Christ. ...... Three hundred years ago, these were the types of people who signed our Declaration of Independence and gave us the American system of government. Today, we find there is nothing wrong with our form of government. However, there is something dramatically wrong with those in positions of power who interpret and defend it. Jesus is the only one who can change mankinds nature. Without Christ-centered men and women working in government, law alone will never be enough to protect us.Questions to Ponder: .....We know there is corruption in government from top to bottom, and unfortunately, its not restricted to just one political party versus another. Are you tempted to rebel? Many of those in power are godless, men and women who refuse to honor the fact that the American system of government was based on Biblical principles. So what is a modern Christian to do? Protest? Fight back? Our answer is the same one given to first century Christians -- preach the Word of God and obey the laws of the land. Only Christ can change the world -- one man and one woman at a time. This is the key to our freedom. Dont substitute political debate for the only true changer of lives -- Jesus Christ -- and through Him our country.----------Pocket Testament League Earnest R.
