The sentence is invariably spoken by a heart specialist to the wife of the patient who has undergone angiography or who has failed TMT aka stress test. The patient is isolated from the wife. Why wife? Because she would be the most caring and most vulnerable for her husband. Fear psychosis is created. It is projected as if the patient would die instantaneously if he is not operated upon - it could be a by-pass surgery or angioplasty. The focus is very clear- subject the wife to maximum pressure! I think that this entire charade is highly deplorable. Doctors are supposed to heal - not create a reign of terror of the disease. They take a noble Hippocratic oath upon graduation. The same is routinely compromised on a daily basis at the altar of greed - unlimited greed. Ever wonder why is there so much rush to get enrolled in lucrative post graduation courses involving super specialities? You would have of course heard tales of medical students paying huge amount of capitation fees - sometimes under the table to get admitted in medical colleges. The die is cast. Their only objective in completing the studies is to make as much money as possible - by hook or crook! I know of several cases where patients have been enticed to undergo angioplasty though the patient did not even have 65% single artery block. What are they practicing? Is it the noble profession or something else? I welcome your views and comments - especially the brickbats!
