Our Get to Know segment for today features a former New Egypt High star who took some snaps at La Salle. Get to Know… Stephen Panasuk, Quarterback Basic Information: 6’3” 230 lbs Football Career: • High School: New Egypt High School • College: La Salle University, Wagner College • Pro: Panasuk has played in three different leagues since graduating from La Salle, including with the Philadelphia Hornets (IGL) in 2012, the Kentucky Drillers (CIFL) in 2013 and most recently the Wyoming Calvary (IFL). The Interview: Q: What made you decide to play for the Freedom? Youve played in other leagues, why head to the PIFL? SP: There were a few factors for me deciding to play for the Freedom. I signed earlier than a lot of players do because I was excited for the opportunity to play for Coach OHanlon and play at home. Also, the stability of the organization played a major part because we have some great ownership that truly loves the game and wants to head in the right direction. Heading to the PIFL was a no brainer because we all want to move up to whatever the next level may be, and with the PIFL and its closeness with the AFL, it was easy to decide to play in this league this year. Q: You went to high school in New Jersey. What does it mean to be playing football back in your home state? SP: Being able to play at home is exciting. When I was in Kentucky and Wyoming it was really hard for my family and friends to come out and see me play, but this season they all can and definitely will come to all our home games and even away games. Playing back at home is going to be special. Winning alone is special, but winning in front of your family and friends is even more special. Q: Tell us about life outside of football. The fans want to know the player inside the helmet. SP: To be honest, I don’t really have much of a life outside of football lately. I started my off-season training as soon as I got home from Wyoming in the summer. I work nights so my day is free to train, throw, condition, whatever it might be because you never know when that phone call is coming to play at a higher level. I enjoy hanging out with my family though, were all very close and it’s a sports committed family. I have a younger brother and sister who I am very close with. I have a younger cousin in the military, another one playing football at Stonehill College, another younger cousin who is a star point guard at Pt. Beach high school, and my brother is working his way up the coaching ladder for Monmouth Universitys basketball program. Pretty much, theres always something to do that involves some kind of sport, and I think that’s what bonds us all so much; making us all close. Were just always hanging out any chance we get. Thats really about it, Faith, Family, and Football to the max! Q: Any goals--personal or for the team--heading into the season? SP: Individually, I want to get better and more prepared every day, the weight room, practice, games, etc. And for the team, it’s Just Win. Thats the only goal. Coach says it best, we want to be 1-0 each and every week.
