Our Last Day with the Year 12 Students Last Friday our wonderful class 12s bid an official farewell to the school and were given the school’s blessing before their final exams and time at the school. To be involved in this beautiful and inspiring day was a privilege and experience I will treasure. It was the first time as a guardian that I was able to witness a group of class 12s imaginatively and humorously transform the school on Thursday night and revisit the classes on Friday morning. Entering the kinders and classrooms with them, and seeing the magic, wonder and reverence on the faces of the children in all the classes, was an experience full of meaning and importance; the kind of experience that helps us define our lives and who we are. What I discovered is that the 12s – and Terri and myself – entered the epoch and essence of each class and age when we entered the different classrooms. The exchange of gifts was a beautiful thing to witness: the classes were thrilled that the 12s had visited and transformed their rooms and gave gifts in the morning that showed their admiration for the older children as well as their blessings for their futures beyond the school. At the assembly, our class 12 representative speakers revealed their humour, intelligence, and rich feeling life through their stories and reflections. They were able to give the school a complete microcosmic picture of their 14 years at the school and the unique character of the group as a whole as well as the diversity of individuals that comprise this class. On a personal note, they have been the class which I have been guardian of for the time in my 14 years at the school: I became their guardian in 2009 when they were in class 8; Terri became their guardian even earlier, in class 7, Matthew in class 9, and Richard and Paul have guided us through class 12. I thank the class on behalf of all their guardians for sharing their school experiences with us. It has – really - been a joy to teach them and go on a couple of camps with them and we wish them every blessing for their exams and futures. Shane Kendal for the class 12 guardians
