Our Saturday Special this week features singer/songwriter Ed - TopicsExpress

Our Saturday Special this week features singer/songwriter Ed Bruce, who will celebrate his 75th birthday on Monday. Ed came to Nashville in 1957 at the age of 17 to try his luck and caught the attention of such bigwigs at Sam Phillips and Cowboy Jack Clement. Success as a recording artist was hard to come by, but one of Eds songs became a hit for pop/rocker Tommy Roe (Save Your Kisses) and then Charlie Louvin had a big hit with his composition See the Big Man Cry. Throughout the late 60s and into the 70s, Eds own releases met with tepid success but his songs continued to be hits for other artists, most notably Mamas, Dont Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys for Waylon & Willie. The 1980s finally brought some success as a solo artist with such songs as My First Taste of Texas and Youre the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had. This un from 1980 was his first top-twenty entry and is one of my favorites. Happy birthday, Ed, and thanks for all the great music. https://youtube/watch?v=GKeDcF1v_Y4
