Our Services Visiting: Older people and disabled people often - TopicsExpress

Our Services Visiting: Older people and disabled people often appreciate company. We have volunteers who visit people weekly for a neighbourly chat. Firm friendships often result from these visits. Wheelchair Pushing: Many people who need a wheelchair to get around are unable to move the chair themselves. Volunteers are trained to push wheelchair users. Weekly Phone Calls to the House-Bound: Isolation is a serious problem for many house-bound people. Our weekly phone call scheme keeps in touch with people, hearing about any problems or needs and passing the time of day. Emergency Shopping: Young or old, disabled or able-bodied; sometimes an emergency occurs which means that we are unable to get to the shops to keep ourselves going. In such situations volunteers can help by going to the shops for you. Driving: We have volunteers that are prepared to use their own car to transport and escort people whose mobility is restricted. Odd Jobs: Changing light bulbs, fixing a coat hook, cutting a hedge. These are the types of job which can get more difficult later in life, or if we are disabled. Carrying out these jobs can make a major improvement to some people’s lives. Lunch Club: Talking over a meal is a lovely way of getting to know people, as well as saving you cooking for yourself. Its great to be able to get out of the house and enjoy other people’s company. If you need anymore information then please contact Cath Biggar on 0161-431-7220.
