Our beginning schedule is we leave Canton on Saturday, January 17 and arrive in Munich, Germany early Sunday morning. The coming week is the hard part of processing small, boring details that need done before we leave. Once we are on the plane – freedom. When we arrive in Munich we will spend several days in what is called our Bavaria field trip that introduces us to German culture and language. We will meet the group of other undergraduates and graduate students on Monday afternoon at the hostel to begin this portion of our trip. Highlights include: Monday – an orientation walk, orientation meeting, introduction to the city Tuesday – visa applications at the Consulate General in Munich, tour of the city center of Munich, tour of BMW world and plant (wonder if they give out samples), tour of Olympia Park Wednesday – all-day trip to Hohenschwangau, visit Schloss Neuschwanstein Thursday – Lecture tour of the Deutsches Museum, visit to Glyptothek, optional visit to the Englischer Garten, depart for Salzburg by train arriving in the evening Friday – Orientation in Salzburg Hopefully that Saturday we will be able to find the local stores and stock the cupboards of our apartment. Our apartment is in the old city in the shadow of the fort pictured above. It is a pedestrian area – no cars allowed. It will be interesting dragging our luggage to our new home.
