Our blacksmith group had a “coal forge pot” building workshop yesterday. We had 14 to build for the folks, including me. It was an elegant design worked up by one of our board members. They are mounted in a table or forge, filled with coal, and connected to an air supply, and whoosh, a fire hot enough to literally burn steel to vapor and ash. Not accounting for all the free labor, the material ended up costing less than $50. Not bad for an amazing tool that can last 100 years.
