Our boy takes his final journey at 5:00pm tonight (Sigh!) The day is here, the one we dread All these memories running through our head Back to the day when we first met Instantly we knew you’d be our pet We were there to see two other greys Cliff and Claire must have been in a haze They were late with two gorgeous red fawns In Granby, CT at Horses and Hounds Would you like to see Wista while you wait? Hesitantly we said, sure that would be great Looking down the aisle this boy we did see As we put out our arms and crouched to one knee He pranced down the aisle and stopped where we sat Put his head in our shoulders and gave his paw to our lap He stayed there, we hugged him, all was right in the world Wista chose us, our hearts were unfurled Home visits were made, papers were signed This boy in our home, the moons were aligned Every day we’ve been blessed with the presence of him A gentleman who’s filled our hearts to the brim Unassuming and gentle, with a passionate soul Our family was tight, but now it was whole Kayla, Lisa, and I could not have been more thrilled With this brand new boy Wista, our household was filled A simple ear skritch, a head pat, some gentle caressing Each day we have had him has been quite a blessing He wanted nothing more than to have us around We’d walk through the door, his tail wagged and he’d bound He owes us nothing, and we owe him our life He mellowed our world, and kept us from strife This mild mannered greyhound, loves his treats so Every meet and greet, Uncle Mark was his hero Come M and G time, Wista would turn on his charm, Leaning and pawing, putting his head in their arm Reeling potential adopters in to take a look at the breed As we passed out the pamphlets for customers to read He loved this and would not miss his Saturday ritual Up in the car the routine became habitual Almost eight years we have had this old man And now he cannot get in the car once again He has not given us one day worth of gruff And we just can’t thank this big boy enough And now it is time for him to depart Across the bridge for a new start To run once again with nary a pain In our heart he will always remain To lose him will leave a big hole We will sorely miss this humble old soul But it is time to do what is right And send him to where it’s always bright To run with those whose time has passed And run with the breeze and have a blast Goodbye for now our meek sweet prince And even though our eyes will wince We will think of you Wista, every day These have been the hardest words to say!!!!!!!!! We love you more than you can ever imagine, buddy! Until we meet again. Godspeed!
